Nintendo Denies Claims Wii-U Will Cease Production

Nintendo says they are not intending to end production of the Wii-U anytime soon. Yesterday it was widely reported around the Internet by several insiders that the final batch of Wii-U's would roll out of the shop and that the company would not be making any more. Kotaku has the scoop from a Japanese news source which spoke to Nintendo about it...

“Even though the Nintendo Switch is slated to go on sale, [Wii U] production is scheduled to continue.”

The move did seem confusing, although not entirely surprising. While it's rare that companies cease production of their console before launching a new one, it's not like the software release window for the Wii-U is strong, or that their numbers reflect there's still a want for the console.

It could also be that Nintendo is just lying and on Friday they will indeed cease production and haven't informed all parties involved that it was happening. It wouldn't be the first time Nintendo has refuted a report and then did exactly what people said they were gonna do! Personally, I don't see any reason to continue production unless you're planning to do a final bundle shipment with Zelda: Breath of the Wild...which I could see them doing in one last push to sell the console.
