Offworld Industries has been whipping up a video game adaptation of the Sony-licensed Starship Troopers brand. As the sole developer and publisher, Offworld Industries released their project Starship Troopers: Extermination through Early Access. Fans of the Starship Troopers franchise are in for a treat with this game. From fighting the Arachnid Menace to joining the Mobile Infantry armed with just a Morita Assault Rifle, this game is a love letter to Starship Troopers.
Sixteen players each in a squad of four will battle against arachnid enemies, defend their bases, and gather resources. Three classes are currently available suited for different playstyles such as Assault, Support, and Defense. Each class has a progression system specific to them to make each player feel like their choices matter to the team. Bases for these players are also constructible and will require heavy defense to maintain against attacks.
It wouldn’t be a Starship Troopers game without bugs! There are already five different types of arachnid enemies to fight against, each creating a dynamic and unpredictable problem to solve. Players will encounter the Drone, Warrior, Gunner, Plasma Grenadier, and Tiger Elite enemy types. The infestation level will increase as the missions progress. This means more numerous and dangerous enemies will emerge to test the players’ skills as time goes on.
The game offers a huge map with swarm-based combat and five unique game zones. Hundreds of enemy bugs can appear, creating a truly hectic and planetary war for players to overcome. The main loop of the game is to retake areas conquered by the bugs like old refineries and bases. Bug hives will also need to be infiltrated and handled to reduce the bug menace! All of this is made easier with the ping system which allows players to call out anything with the click of a button. It has never been easier or more fun to do your part for the Mobile Infantry and the United Citizens Federation!
