The Serious Sam franchise is getting a slightly different iteration in Serious Sam: Tormental, a rogue-lite, top-down shooter that finds players mowing down the “tormented” inside the mind of his Mental, the demigod of destruction. Sam must defeat these enemies the only way he knows how, but Mental has imagined the craziest worlds and enemies he can conjure for players to blast through.
Originally released on Steam Early Access in 2019 by Gungrounds, Croteam, and Devolver Digital, Serious Sam: Tormental is now a fully completed title and ready for gamers to scratch their itchy trigger fingers. The full version of the game brings the big guns with new weapons, perks, arenas, leaderboards, new music, and a new character.
Serious Sam: Tormental finds the series’ titular hero plumbing the depths of a sacred temple to recover an ancient artifact capable of unlocking the deepest secrets of the mind. Sam uses this device to dive into the head of his longtime nemesis, Mental (who’s more than earned his namesake), whisking Sam away on a crazy journey to dispose of the hordes of monsters that inhabit Mental’s psyche.
Along the way, players will earn upgrades and unlock additional characters with different, unique abilities that change up the flow of combat. The game also features a two-player co-op option for double the monster destroying mayhem.
Serious Sam: Tormental is available now for PC via Steam.
