Starfield didn’t exactly light the world on fire, and while it’s still a pretty successful release, there’s a lot of room for improvement. Bethesda Games has been slowly releasing patches to address larger issues, but none of those have impacted complaints about the gameplay in a meaningful way. Today, with the release of Update 1.8.88, Bethesda took to Reddit to share their plans for early 2024, hinting at deeper mechanical additions as well as technical improvements.
Starfield 2024 Plans
Here is a summary of their planned updates for early 2024
Large number of “in-progress” quest fixes
FSR3 and XeSS Support
City Maps
Mod Support
New methods of travel
While all of these are neat additions, the most interesting one is easily the mention of new travel methods. Starfield’s entire premise revolves around exploring the cosmos, but the actual time spent in space doesn’t feel as immersive, rewarding, or engaging. You click through a few menus, and you’re at your destination. Players expected space travel to feel a bit more involved, but it’s really not in its current state.
I believe that Bethesda is listening, which they mentioned in the comment as well, and I hope to see improvements in that aspect whenever they plan on releasing a major update.
