The METAL GEAR SOLID 3 Remake Will Not Feature New Voice Lines

When Konami revealed that they were making a remake of one of their most beloved titles with Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, fans immediately began to speculate. One hot topic that comes to mind is whether the developers will use the same voice actors or hire a completely new cast. The teaser trailer revealed at the PlayStation Showcase did not have any dialogue (with the exception of the Snake Eater theme) so minds began to wonder. However, it seems like we have our answer.

The Verge has recently confirmed with Konami that the game will not be re-recording any dialogue and will instead use the exact same voice lines from the original game. This is definitely a much different approach than any remakes that have been released recently, such as Resident Evil and Dead Space, which offered newly recorded voice lines. Now, this isn’t necessarily bad news. You always run the risk of diluting the experience when you alter the dialogue or even the original voice actors. David Hayter, the voice of Snake, is such an iconic figure in the series, and recasting him would draw much speculation to the game as opposed to just reusing his lines.

I think Konami is playing it safe, but it was the right move. Since they do not have to worry about finding the right cast or recording new lines, all of their attention can go toward improving the gameplay mechanics. They really need to knock it out of the park with this one, a title that is held close to many fans' hearts. Here’s to hoping they include Snake vs Monkey and all of Kojima’s eccentric humor.

Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
