There seems to be a big pool of games that take direct inspiration from BioShock. Clockwork Revolution is the most recent of this lot. The game is developed by inXile Entertainment with Xbox Game Studios as the publisher. Steampunk is making a comeback in the game, and it looks like the popular style has a new coat of paint based on clocks.
Clockwork Revolution takes place in a steampunk world with dark undertones. The world appears to be a perfectly structured and controlled society with little conflict. Since this is a game it’s obvious that there are more sinister things going on behind the scenes. This is made prevalent when a woman, who seems to be the main character, crafts graffiti on a poster, ridiculing the woman that has control over the city.
The trailer then swaps between the bright and picturesque city, and a much darker and tyrannical form of the city. This new rigid tone might come about as a reaction to the character’s revolutionary activities. Automatons walk the streets with weapons, spotlights stalk the streets, and fancy-looking people lose their feigned patience.
Time manipulation is the big gameplay style on display. The character seems to be able to reverse time. This will undoubtedly affect combat and puzzles if the latter is in the game.
Clockwork Revolution has yet to have an official release date but will be available on Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
