Riot Games has officially revealed the full release date of their Overwatch/CSGO hybrid, VALORANT and with that, the end of the closed beta. The closed beta that began back in April, will soon see its end on May 28, whereas the game will see its full release on June 2. When the day finally arrives, players can expect to see some new content launching alongside VALORANT. Riot Games has confirmed that the game will be receiving a brand new map and Agent, as well as a brand new game mode.
The studio has made the decision to stop VALORANT code drops, as the beta ends in just under a week. Those that were eligible for closed beta access, but never received a code will instead receive an exclusive Twitch/VALORANT player card when the game launches on June 2. Players that have had the opportunity to participate in the closed beta can keep playing until 9:00 AM PT on May 28, when Riot Games will shut off all of the servers.
As far as progression goes, players will keep everything they earned through the “Closed Beta Player Pass”, but can say goodbye to everything else. Those that chose to utilize the in-game store will lose all of their purchases but will get all of their VALORANT points back at launch, along with a 20% bonus.
Riot Games has done a great job of keeping up with player feedback during the testing process and making changes where they are needed. I am excited to see where this engagement with the community will get them in terms of VALORANT’s longevity when the game launches in just two weeks.
I must admit that I am a little concerned about the number of maps at launch. Playing the same four maps over and over again can get tiresome fast, so I am curious to see how they try to combat that if they choose to do something other than an attempt to quickly add maps into the rotation; which I can see going sideways.
