The new trailer for Zombieland: Double Tap is out, and I couldn’t be more excited. Nothing says a good time like watching this crazy foursome dispatch hordes of zombies. They’ve got panache, which is necessary if you want to impress people with your deconstruction of the undead. But what’s more important is that the Zombieland franchise brings comedy to the zombie genre in such a satisfying way. It’s not the dark world of 28 Days Later. It’s not the apocalyptic scene of World War Z. It’s Bill Murray and Twinkies. Imagine if we could bottle up all of that crazy and put it in a video game. And it would be even more delicious if they revitalized a game that could have been so much better. Like Dead Island!

I remember when the first trailer dropped for Dead Island. It stands out as one of the best trailers for a game in recent memory. It was emotionally affecting, and the novel approach it took to revealing the dangers of the world made me watch it several times over. If you haven’t seen it before, take a couple of minutes and check it out above. I’ll still be here when you’ve dried your tears. Sadly, the game did not follow in the footsteps of the trailer. Dead Island didn’t play like a zombie-filled sibling to The Last of Us. It was more of a hack-and-slash using every imaginable weapon that you could find at a beach resort.

I still enjoyed Dead Island, but it disappointed a lot of gamers. They came out with a killer trailer, and then the game was…not so killer. It didn’t reach its full potential, no matter how much I love the rap song that starts off the game. Thanks to Sam B. we can fix that! Zombieland has the comedy chops, it’s got the zany flair that Dead Island was missing. It’s not going to be The Last of Us, that’s okay it can be a new animal. A Twinkie-bomb of zombie-fueled insanity, mash them together. Let’s play a zombie game where we get to be Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock. It would be sublime. Who’s with me?
