By the Hoarry Hosts of Hoggoth! The sequel to Marvel Studios’ 2017 film Doctor Strange is still in production, but one of the key pairs of hands in making the film the success it was will be absent. Scott Derrickson, the director and co-writer of the first Doctor Strange film announced that he will no longer be directing the upcoming sequel — Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — citing “creative differences”. Derrickson will remain attached to the film as Executive Producer. The original plans for the sequel were for the movie to be a “horror film” featuring Doctor Strange and fellow superhero Scarlett Witch going on an interdimensional adventure through time and space.
This is not the first time a director has walked off of a Marvel Cinematic Universe film due to a disagreement with the producers and other higher-ups. Previous, Patty Jenkins was attached to direct Thor: The Dark World and Jon Faveru declined to direct Iron Man 3, remaining on as a producer and in the role of the character Happy Hogan.
What do you think of the situation? Might the film suffer without Derrickson? Or is it too early to tell?
