You're the lead in this cinematic mob story, immersed in the world of organized crime. See what it truly means to be part of the family in the first Official...

Mafia is back again. This time, they’re starting back at the beginning. In early May there were rambles online about a remake of the original Mafia game that started the series in 2002. On May 19th we were given an announcement trailer revealing what we heard was true. Not only were we given information that they were remaking the original game (set for release on August 28th), we are also receiving a definitive edition for Mafia 2 and 3. Both will include all previously released DLC, and if you already own Mafia 3, it will be upgraded automatically. Besides DLC, both games have gotten a slight facelift albeit minimal. Those games were released only a couple of days after the announcement and can be bought separately or in a cheaper bundle. All 3 definitive editions are available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, there has yet to be talk of a next-generation version.

The remake of the original game is recreated from the ground up and will reportedly run on the same mechanics as the previous entry to the series, Mafia 3. There was anticipation for a view of what the game would actually look like, and on June 13th we were treated to a story trailer. Although there is zero gameplay to be shown, the trailer does entice as to what we can expect with some visuals of this remake. In the trailer, we get a look at the beautiful and newly recreated Lost Heaven from Mafia. Cityscapes, bustling streets, and a variety of different parts of town where the mob’s violent reign of terror, takes center stage.

Newly imagined looks to the characters are also on show here as we get to meet our protagonist, antagonist, and a few of the supporting characters throughout. Most noticeable is our protagonist Tommy Angelo. In olden days due to lack of technological advancements, game developers didn’t have the resources to create totally realistic looking characters. Now that we have the capabilities of doing more, Hangar 13 took advantage of this and recreated the looks of the characters. Tommy has been remade, while still keeping with his signature overall look of black suit and red tie. We’re shown classic scenes, like the one from the mission “The Priest” as well as scenes entirely done differently as when Tommy meets Detective Norman.

While the game still has time before launch, there has not yet been any clue as to when 2K is going to drop a gameplay trailer, showing us what’s to be expected in-game visually. I’d expect something by mid-July as this has been the trend with them on news with the game. Back in its day, the original Mafia game did a good job setting up its tone and world so hopefully, that is the case with the remake. They have a really good chance of making something fantastic and I really hope it doesn’t get poorly executed the same way as Mafia 3 was. I for one am highly anticipating driving down the streets of Lost Heaven in an old Model T, honking that old-timey horn!
