Nintendo wasn’t kidding when it stated that it had unannounced Switch titles ready for 2019 that would please fans! As part of last nights Nintendo Direct the big N pulled the cover off of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Maker 2. Link’s Awakening is a remake to the 1993 Gameboy game of the same name that finds Link stranded on Koholint Island with the only way to escape being to awaken the Mysterious Wind Fish. The game retains its top down perspective from the original release and remains one of my all time favorite Zelda games to this day. Though I can’t help feeling a bit disappointed with the ugly art direction Nintendo went with on this remake. After the amazing stylized cutscenes the clay looking gameplay and lifeless looking Link are real turn offs. Seriously why can’t he at least have eyes that aren’t black pixels? This isn’t 1993 anymore. Link’s Awakening is slated for a 2019 release.

Originally released for the Game Boy™ system more than 25 years ago, one of the most beloved games in the Legend of Zelda series returns. In this modern re-imagining, players once again return to the mysterious island of Koholint to guide Link on a perilous adventure.

Super Mario Maker 2 is also a pleasant surprise that seems to be building off its predecessor right! All the world build antics from the past game seem to be included with the added bonus of finally being able to make sloped terrain. New elements from Super Mario 3D Land/World has also been added to help give more variety to gameplay. New water options have also been added for players to utilize and I can’t wait to see what kind of monstrosities the community will come out with! Super Mario Maker 2 is slated for a June 2019 release date.

In this new game, a sequel to the original Wii U™ game, players can create the Super Mario courses of their dreams, with access to even more tools, items and features, including the new ability to create slopes for the first time. Super Mario Maker 2 launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch this June.
