The Super Mario Game That Needs To Be Made

Image from Mario Strikers: Battle League for reference

The Super Mario franchise has been around forever, being the front man to all kinds of games. 3D platformers, 2D platformers, Puzzle Games, RPGs, and today’s topic of discussion, sports games. Super Mario Strikers wowed players with its epic soccer gameplay, while personal favorites like Super Mario Sluggers brought Mario onto baseball diamonds, he’s even been on the golf course, and tennis courts. Heck he’s even been to the Olympics! It really makes you think, “Could Mario really do anything?” The answer, yes.

The red mustached man has showcased his skills in numerous sports, leaving few unexplored. However, one sport that I believe would translate incredibly well into a game featuring Super Mario characters is football. The potential for such a game is immense, with the ability to assign various characters to different positions and even designate them as captains, much like Super Mario Strikers.

Super Mario Sluggers on the Wii

It would be ideal to model it after Super Mario Sluggers on the Wii, allowing players to draft their squads according to their preferences. Certain characters could possess chemistry with each other, leading to bonus plays. The gameplay could be highly enjoyable with simple controls; it doesn't necessarily require the complexity of real football rules or the playcalling mechanics found in Madden.

Do you think Super Mario Pro Bowl (My made up name for Super Mario Football) would make a fun game?
