Um, Tiger Electronics Cheap Handhelds Are Coming Back Because Why Not...

Well, it really does seem that everything old is new again as this newest announcement from Hasbro sees the company resurrecting probably some of the worst products of the 90s. Tiger Electronics was famous back in the day for releasing a ton of cheap handheld games that ranged from ok to downright crap. Now Hasbro, who acquired Tiger Electronics back in 1998, is bringing them back and I just don’t understand why. These new LCD handhelds will be available for $14.99 each and at launch 4 games will be available including Sonic 3, Little Mermaid, Transformers, and X-Men.

Each game will bring gamers and die-hard retro fans back to the ‘90s with the design and technology created with the original game unit in mind.

Each device utilizes pre-drawn images on a screen that will activate at different times to achieve a desired effect be it movement or one on one fighting. Handhelds will also require 2 AA batteries for power. For anyone who is excited about the reprinting of such devices, I am happy for you but I just don’t see the appeal. These things were such a pain back in the day and about the only thing I can see them being good for now is for collecting and sitting on a shelf. I am curious to see how well these devices do though when they launch later this year.

Do you think you will pick up a new Tiger Electronics handheld in 2020?
