This is a fairly ingenuous concept and I feel, something which will resound with gamers who enjoy sim games, business management and those interested in game development in general. Game Dev Tycoon is a game which enables the player to move through the history of gaming, discovering new technologies and crafting new game types.
It's a business simulation which starts in the 1980's where, accurately enough, you begin your glorious career, somewhat accurately for the era. In a garage office, with these humble beginnings you hope to craft a gaming empire and make a name for yourself in the industry.

For those of you reading this who are completely turned off by the term 'business simulation'. Please don't be, promise me when I tell you that within this game is complete, sheer, joy! The basic strategic premise concerns choosing a platform, a genre and a thematic category for the game you want to develop. Once these are chosen, the game is then split into three discrete phases. These enable the player to add on features to the title and allocate resources to Story-Writing, Graphics and Sound. Allowing you to decide upon which areas of development that you wish to focus on. Does your game need more gameplay? Or should it focus on more Quests? It's up to you to decide.

From these basic strategic management concepts the game expands as you employ more staff members. The game then blossoms with an RPG element being added as well as time management. Each employee can be assigned to specialise in a particular area of game development. This helps with later, more complex games - as they need either Design Points or Technology points to make. As you level up your employees in these areas - you can make better game titles.

Outside of expanding your staff numbers, there's another portion of Game Dev Tycoon that focuses on developing new tools for game development. As a Studio becomes more experienced, new development tools can be researched. This leads to games with better graphics and multi-genre games types being made available

Game Dev Tycoon was released in 2012 by Greenheart Studios on the PC and quickly became an indie favourite. Last year it was released on the IOS to similar acclaim and it was quickly discovered that perhaps the mobile environment is the games best fit. It's now been released to Android devices at the incredibly low price of $4.99. It's a premium release which means you don't have to deal with any pesky advertisements getting in the way of your fun!
Similar to the IOS release, the Android version's UI has been retro fitted for touch screen controls without detracting from any aspects of the game. With the re crafting of the game for the mobile platforms, the title plays perfectly on the android. I'm a huge fan of this game and it's great to see that scores on the Play store have been overwhelmingly positive.
