Get A Closer Look At HORIZON FORBIDDEN WEST’s New Monsters

Guerrilla Games debuted a new trailer for Horizon Forbidden West at The Game Awards last night, showing some new glimpses at the new gear Aloy will have access to and the new machines she’ll be using that gear against.

The trailer shows off a host of new armor, including one that makes Aloy look like she’s wearing the skull of a dinosaur and another that gives her a sleek, secret agent look. The trailer also shows several of the new mechanics Guerrilla has added to Aloy’s roster for the sequel, including her high-tech hang glider and grapple ability.

Numerous different kinds of machine enemies appear in this trailer as well, including a few Guerrilla hasn’t shown off before. There are raptor-like enemies that can shoot fire from the frills around their neck, as well as larger machines that can roll into a ball and charge at Aloy from a distance.

There appears to be a jaguar-style machine that attacks with its pack, and even a Loch Ness monster-looking enemy that Aloy encounters after diving below the waves. The trailer closes with a look at an almost mythical beast: a giant, mechanical serpent coiled around a half-destroyed column that is reminiscent of fabled creatures from Greek and Egyptian mythology.

Aloy’s next adventure is almost here as Horizon Forbidden West launches on February 18, 2022, exclusively for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. For more on Horizon Forbidden West, check out how the sequel is elevating the gameplay experience through animation, audio, and AI.
