MEDIEVAL MACHINES BUILDER - FIRST SIEGE Preview: Relaxing Yet Teditheous

Medieval Machines Builder: The First Siege is a preview for the upcoming Medieval Machines Builder. The preview walks through the first two missions giving a true preview of what is to come in this game.

Gameplay

The First Siege only allows you access to two missions, I’m sure there are other types of missions in the game but from the theme these seem like they’ll be the more common mission types. The first mission is what seems to be the focus of the game and that is the actual building part. You gather resources, chop trees down to size, and put together a catapult from the ground up.

On the second mission you’re asked to show that the machine you’ve built is battle ready and you are tasked with destroying a small town by tossing rock clusters with the catapult. The gameplay is pretty basic, almost like the survival crafting games you’re used to. The building is slow yet relaxing, I actually enjoyed the building part of the game. When it came to the “battle” mission is where it felt tedious. You’re essentially walking back and forth grabbing ammo while making the tiniest adjustments on the catapult to aim it slightly to the right, it was slower than expected.

Expectations

Saying that the game is called Medieval Machines BUILDER I’m hoping to see a focus on the building part of the game. I don’t think the testing missions are where the game shines which is fine, since I wasn’t even expecting anything like that since the game isn’t called Medieval Machines Tester. A larger variety of machines and more missions that focus on building should do this game justice.

Verdict

Medieval Machines Builder is kind of 50/50 for me. The preview was so short that I didn’t really feel like I got a fair chance to judge it. From what you do get access to, I can say that if the game focuses on the building aspect more than the action aspect, it will actually be a relaxing time passer. But on the other hand, if the game sticks you into a lot of action missions then it’s going to feel like a slow drag in the mud.

Medieval Machines Builder has a planned release for 2024, you can wishlist now on Steam to be notified when it releases!
