Nintendo Switch Online Will Feature Cloud Saves and NES Games

Nintendo has announced a few details regarding the long-awaited online service for the Switch. Nintendo Switch Online, which is the official name for the service, will be available this September. Nintendo Switch Online will cost $3.99 for a monthly subscription, $7.99 for three months, and $19.99 for a one-year subscription. Furthermore, a family plan is available that will give players up to eight accounts that will cost $34.99. 

The subscription service will give players access to games such as Splatoon 2, Arms and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe online. Furthermore, Nintendo confirmed that the online service would provide players with the ability to have a cloud backup for saving data. 

The most exciting feature of Nintendo Switch Online is that it offers a library of NES games that will be playable for the Switch that will include online compatibility and voice chat support. Currently, Nintendo announced that 20 titles would be available at launch 10 of which are already confirmed which you can see below:

  • Balloon Fight
  • Donkey Kong
  • Dr. Mario
  • Ice Climber
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Mario Bros.
  • Soccer
  • Super Mario Bros. 
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Tennis

Lastly, Nintendo confirmed with Kotaku that the long-awaited Virtual Console would not be available on the Nintendo Switch. Instead, Nintendo Switch Online will serve as the replacement of the Virtual Console as new titles will be added to the service regularly. Currently, only NES titles have been confirmed, but it is expected that games from other older Nintendo consoles will also be available.
