Symbiosis Games has been hard at work trying to replicate and improve upon the famous multiplayer mode that made stealth fans worldwide incredibly happy in the early ‘00s.A little game called Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and it’s incredible sequel Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory both offered asymmetrical multiplayer that captured the hearts of stealth fans everywhere. The multiplayer mode, titled Spies Vs Mercs, was an incredible cat vs mouse affair that relied on witts and strategy over pure aimbot-like shooting skills. I am happy to report that the mode is destined to return in the form of Spectre.
Ubisoft disconnected the multiplayer servers for both PT and CT multiplayer years ago, leaving longtime fans in the dust. Symbiosis Games were clearly a part of that fandom and took the bull by the horns and decided to do something about it. They have crafted their own version of Spies Vs Mercs in the form of Spectre. We can see some of the new gameplay in the trailer above.
Essentially, Spectres play in third-person view with the objective of hacking data on the map and staying in the shadows. The Reapers play in first-person view and act more like a traditional shooter, with an emphasis on defence rather than kill count. This asymmetrical aspect of the game allowed for extremely intense moments of hide and seek for the defenceless Spectres, with the exception of a lethal melee if they manage to sneak up behind a Reaper successfully.
Spectre will be released on July 24th for PC via Steam.
