SteelSeries ARCTIS 7P+ WIRELESS Review: The Headset Of The Year

Review Sample Provided by SteelSeries

Though the year is just about over and I had thought that I finally tested out my last headset a month or so ago, SteelSeries was kind enough to send me over one of their awesome new Arctis 7P+ Wireless headsets and I could not be happier. It took everything I loved from the Arctis Prime and somehow managed to outdo itself. Comfort, durability, and versatility are what set this headset apart from any that I’ve ever used. These headsets are worth every penny.

What’s In The Box

As per usual, SteelSeries manages to put together a clean box design that doesn’t go beyond what it’s meant to do, show off the product. Inside, you’ll find the Arctis 7P+ headset, a USB-C wireless dongle, a mobile audio cable, a charging cable, and a USB-C to USB-A adapter.

It literally includes everything you’d need no matter what platform you’re gaming on. The only thing missing that I would have liked to see was the wind-screen that came included with the Arctis Prime. Honestly though, that’s more a nit-pick than anything.

Aesthetics and Build Quality

This is an insanely fresh-looking headset from top to bottom. While there is a blacked-out version (Arctis 7+), the 7P+ was created with the PlayStation 5 in mind. That being said, the color palette is on-point. The mostly white design with embellishments of black and blue details really makes this thing look great. It’s also worth noting that it also matches the white Nintendo Switch OLED perfectly as well.

Just like with their other products, SteelSeries does not drop the ball on build quality at all. The aluminum alloy and steel headband is malleable enough where it’s comfortable yet still sturdy enough to retain its shape when not in use. I did notice that this headset uses a bit more plastic than the Prime does in some areas but it also makes it a bit lighter too so it really comes down to preference. For me personally, I didn’t mind it especially as I’m not someone who treats their gear too harshly so I wouldn’t see it becoming an issue.

Specs and Audio Quality

  • Low latency 2.4 GHz wireless through its USB-C dongle

  • 15min quick charge for 3-hour usage

  • 30-hour battery life

  • Discord-certified ClearCast bidirectional noise-canceling microphone

  • Fully compatible with PlayStation 5's Tempest 3D AudioTech

The Arctis 7P+ really does include some impressive features that prove that it’s a headset that is made for the next generation of gaming. I used this headset for about 2 weeks and really never even found myself having to charge it, proving that its battery life is true to its advertising.

I tried gaming via its many different connection types and loved each one equally no matter how I decided to play. My favorite way to play of course was through its USB-C dongle with my Switch. Chilling in bed and wearing these was just the best experience of my year. They sound so crystal clear and like with the Prime, offer a deep and fully-fleshed out soundscape.

I found the EQ to be really balanced though which seemed like a step up from the Prime, overall. SteelSeries really found the sweet spot when it came to delivering some premium audio that doesn’t go too far in the wrong direction.

The onboard controls are easy to navigate and also pretty cool too. You have the power button, a mute toggle, a volume wheel, a sidetone wheel, a 3.5mm jack, a USB-C jack, and its wired cable jack. These are just more reasons why the Arctis 7P+ just feels like the complete package.

The retractable mic is also as great as it was with the Prime but with the added feature of the sidetone wheel which allows you to monitor how you sound. This is extremely important to someone like me, who speaks extremely loudly when I’m gaming. Features like this save my wife from having to remind me that I’m shouting at a game at 2 am while people are trying to sleep.

What It Could Have Done Better

I really don’t have any reasons to dislike the Arctis 7P+ at all. The only things I would’ve liked to see included in the box were things that I enjoyed from the Prime, like the wind screen I mentioned as well as the swappable speaker plates. Though, these two things not being there don’t detract from what the headset actually is overall.

Verdict

What SteelSeries has cultivated with the Arctis 7P+ is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s a headset that offers every creature comfort available and manages to pack it into a beautiful, comfortable, and durable headset that has proven to be my favorite one of 2021, by far. For its extremely fair price of $169.99, there really isn’t any reason why you should overlook this headset when looking for a new one to match your next-gen consoles. It smashed my expectations.
