Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics just dropped the fourth episode in their mini documentary series on the making of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and with each new installment it becomes harder to contain the excitement for this one. This latest episode pulls back the curtain on how Crystal Dynamics and co-developer Flying Wild Hog reimagined Lara's movement and traversal for a modern audience, diving into the painstaking work of recreating her iconic moves from the 1996 original while making them feel responsive and physical on today's hardware. Voice actor Alix Wilton Regan discusses the real life training she undertook to authentically bring Lara to life, and the development team walks through the visual language guiding players through environments that have been completely rebuilt and expanded in Unreal Engine 5. Combined with the previous episodes covering Lara's reimagined character, the stunning recreation of Peru, and the terrifyingly redesigned creatures that inhabit it, this documentary series is doing something special: it's letting players watch a legendary game get reborn in real time, and the craftsmanship on display is nothing short of remarkable.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches February 12, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. Every room, puzzle, and encounter from the original has been rethought and expanded, with self contained spaces opening into interconnected environments that can be approached from entirely new angles. This isn't a simple coat of paint over a 30 year old classic. It's a ground up reimagining from a team that clearly understands why the original mattered, built with the full weight of Crystal Dynamics' two decades of Tomb Raider experience and Flying Wild Hog's action design chops behind it. We cannot wait to get our hands on this one. Welcome home, Lara!
