Gameplay
In Towers & Powers, you step into the shoes of a mighty demi-god tasked with defending the realm against an encroaching evil force. The backdrop is a chaotic time when all the Gods are engaged in a war, leaving no one else to safeguard the land from the malevolent entity that lurks within. As the protector, your role involves strategically commanding troops, setting traps, and utilizing spells to thwart waves of enemies across 15 diverse levels with escalating difficulty and unique layouts.
What sets this game apart from conventional tower defense titles is its distinct approach. Instead of acquiring towers and upgrading them, you purchase various types of troops that can be stacked on designated tower locations. Each troop offers specific advantages, and the damage output of the tower is determined by the troop positioned on top. For instance, a basic peasant on top results in a classic arrow tower with a sizable ballista, while a Monk launches debuffing barrels, and a Viking warrior wields an axe launcher.
Furthermore, each troop stacked imparts a unique buff to the tower. For example, stacking three peasants enhances the tower's firing speed. Mixing and matching troops adds an extra layer of complexity; for instance, two peasants at the bottom with a Monk on top allows the Monk tower to unleash barrels at an accelerated rate. If you reverse that, placing a peasant on top of two monks yields a tower with heavy-hitting arrows. The strategic possibilities extend further, such as inserting a Viking Warrior in the middle to create a dual-damage output tower.
In addition to troops and towers, the game introduces traps that can be built and upgraded to impede or halt enemy advances. Adding an extra layer of excitement are the magic spells that whimsically traverse the skies. Upon hearing a distinctive magic sparkle noise, players can locate and snatch a magic ball in mid-air, subsequently unleashing powers like a fiery explosion, summoning an ice storm, or healing deployed traps and troops. These unpredictable elements contribute to the dynamic and entertaining gameplay experience.
Graphics and Sound
This game really focuses on it’s gameplay, there’s some cool little monster designs but it’s nothing too special. The levels aren’t anything awe-inducing either, they’re very simple. The whole game visually is simple but there’s nothing wrong with that.
Feedback
Honestly, the game is fine and it’s pretty fun. But it’s really short. Even if there was some sort of endless nightmare mode or something it just seems to run out of content and I don’t really have any reason to replay levels. The game is also pretty easy so you pretty much three star everything on the first try which makes you even less inclined to replay levels.
The game doesn’t have a ton of content which can be solved with some added levels, an endless mode, or maybe even a creator mode.
Verdict
Towers & Powers is a fun little tower defense game that runs out of content way too quickly. If there was a little bit more it would improve a lot because I felt that once you finally get to use everything the game is already over.
