Compulsion Games, the developer of the upcoming game, We Happy Few, has announced that the game will be released later than expected. The game was originally slated for release on April 13 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, but the developer has just announced that the launch for We Happy Few will be moved to sometime this summer.

Although Compulsion Games did not specify a release date, at least we know that the game is still set to release this year. For now, the developer has released a new video, offering a sneak peek at the game’s second playable character, Sally. The developer video also outlined the company’s vision on what lies ahead for We Happy Few.

We Happy Few is a survival horror psychedelic game that is set in a dystopian version of 1960s-era England. In this version of the U.K., everyone is addicted on a drug inducing bliss called “Joy.” In the game, players will be challenged to moderate their take of the drug, and see the world around them for what it truly is, and at the same time, behaving in a way that will not draw suspicion from society. Talking about the delay of the game, producer Sam Abott said that:

“There are these moments that are memorable, very funny, and super weird and we’re really excited to show you all, but we felt that the first two hours of Arthur’s story just didn’t live up to those moments, meaning that the game didn’t start as well as it should. So we went back to the drawing board and made a couple of big decisions: we brought forward a number of story moments, to get into the action faster, and also rebuilt the whole first island for Arthur.”

Given that the game is only delayed for possible a few months max, I’m quite impressed that Compulsion Games is taking their sweet time making the game into the best possible version as they can. Personally, I’d rather have them take their time, rather than rush the development process and release a substandard game.
