Western Digital Launches Officially Licensed PS5 SSD’s

Next-gen, or maybe more appropriately termed current-gen, has been plagued with hilariously small hard drive space. The PlayStation 5 can hold less than ten current-gen titles on average and that's just unacceptable for the vast majority of gamers. Especially with the newly improved PlayStation Plus service, there will absolutely be a need for more space on that SSD. Luckily, Western Digital has partnered with Sony to bring us some new options at a respectable rate.

The very first officially licensed M.2 SSD for PS5 will cut down on long load times with PCIe Gen4 technology, reaching up to 7000MB/s2 read speed. That's a lot of jargon that will essentially get you into the game a lot faster. It is available now at Best Buy online and in stores as well as the Western Digital store. It will be available at other select retailers in mid-August.

The WD BLACK SN850 NVMe SSD for PS5 retails for $169.99 for the 1TB and $279.99 for the 2TB. Currently, this price seems to be a decent starting point for the SSD, considering the M.2 drives were significantly more when the PS5 first launched.

If you are looking to upgrade the storage space in your PS5 to make room for all of those PS Plus Premium titles, these WD SSDs may be a good option to consider.
