[*Update: According to a Blizzard representative, “We do not have any plans to implement cross-platform gameplay for Diablo at this time.”]
Original Story:
Cross-platform play is slowly becoming a standard feature in most games nowadays especially with the rise of some multiplayer titles such as Fortnite, Rocket League, and many others. Now Blizzard has revealed that it is open to the idea of cross-platform play, and may even include the feature on the upcoming Diablo III Eternal Collection for the Switch.
Diablo III Eternal Collection is set to arrive to the Nintendo Switch next month and will be the seventh re-release of Diablo III overall. Business Insider was able to talk to Blizzard Entertainment and asked why a cross-platform play was not included in previous releases of Diablo III. The representative responded by saying that it would be happening at some point:
“It’s a question of when not if.”
Although Blizzard did not specify details regarding the inclusion of cross-play support, the company has made similar claims in the past. However, Blizzard is reportedly working with Microsoft and Sony to enable cross-console play Diablo III on the Switch.
Diablo III is now available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One with the Eternal Collection for the Nintendo Switch slated to release on November 2, 2018.
