The only way to give Onix a proper habitat in Pokémon Pokopia is to use Smooth Rock, a rare resource that can be placed beside four tall grass to house this Pokémon. Once you free Onix from the cave in the ‘Yawn Up A Storm’ quest, you will be on the hunt for this rock. But where is it? Here’s a helpful guide on where you can get Smooth Rock in Pokémon Pokopia.
Where to find Smooth Rock in Pokémon Pokopia
You can find Smooth Rock in Pokémon Pokopia in the same cave that you rescued Onix from. Even if you haven’t released him yet, you can grab this Smooth Rock that’s hidden inside a Poké Ball.
Enter Onix’s cave in the northwestern corner of Withered Wasteland. Near one of the natural cave springs and where Onix was trapped, you should see a glowing red Poké Ball.
Although I had already grabbed it by the time I snapped this photo, you should be able to spot it in that area. Pick it up, and you’ll get one Smooth Rock.
As we’re making it through the game ourselves, we’re not sure yet if you can get more Smooth Rock from different worlds. But for now, use that one Smooth Rock to make Onix’s habitat.
Onix likes dry areas, so find an unwatered grassy area, place or grow four dry tall grass, then put down the Smooth Rock. You can now alert Onix to his new, dry habitat.
