Cyberpunk 2077 is getting its big, next-gen upgrades today alongside a slew of other improvements and updates that will effectively give the game a fresh launch in 2022. CD Projekt Red debuted all the new info during a developer live stream that culminated in the reveal of the immediate launch date for this patch.
The patch not only comes with visual and performance improvements for the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 but also includes tweaks to the core gameplay mechanics. The perk trees have been totally overhauled to allow players more freedom in crafting a playstyle suited to their tastes. Some trees were removed while others were renamed to more accurately reflect their related skills.
Enemy AI has also been enhanced to make them smarter when engaging the player in combat. They’ll seek out cover more effectively and adapt to the player to create new engagement strategies. NPCs are smarter as well, fleeing combat more effectively and interacting with vehicles more realistically.
Some new, free DLC will also be part of the patch, including new guns for V to equip and new apartments around Night City for her to buy and use as safe houses. Activities while in the apartments now provide buffs for V, and mirrors can be used to alter V’s appearance at any time. There are also some tweaks being made to romantic relationships, including more opportunities to message them throughout the relationship and the chance to wake up next to them after sleeping at their apartment.
The next-gen upgrades for Cyberpunk 2077 are available now for all platforms and provide up to 60fps at 4K resolution on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Ray tracing is also available for both systems at a reduced frame rate. The new version will also support the Dual Sense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
