DayZ Continues Development for Xbox One

You read that title correctly, the original open world survival game that was an early alpha access on Steam is still coming to the Xbox One with plans to eventually release on the PlayStation 4 as well. It may come as a surprise to many people as the game lost most of its already dwindling player base in October of 2016. However, it announced on November 28th, 2017 that it would be coming out of alpha in 2018. What that actually means for the game, and if it will indeed be a full release is definitely up to speculation. Many people who played the game have since latched on to more popular but similar franchises like H1Z1 or even more recently Fortnite and PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds. The news came from a tweet from the DayZ development team on February 4th.

Despite the release of those titles, DayZ still has a semi-active player base. According to Steam there is still somewhere in the realm of two to five thousand players on at any given moment but is also a far cry from its all-time active peak of 45,398 users. Those who played DayZ will remember the crazy amount of glitches, server lag issues, game mechanic issues and a ton of other bugs, so it will be interesting to see if they can fix the mountain of problems the game has. The other question this raises is with the release of newer more polished games with varying similarities, is it too late for the game to come back from the ashes and be successful?
