Intro and Gameplay
As massive fans of ELDEN RING, we couldn’t wait to not only see more of Nightreign but to finally get our hands on it. Now, after several rounds of ups, downs, cheers, jeers, smiles, and some frowns, we are ready to report our take on this divisive yet lovingly crafting game.
First off, what this game is: A fun, not-so-serious take on three play co-op battles in the ELDEN RING universe. It’s a game that is priced accordingly but honestly, probably could have been either F2P or a more budget title with cosmetic only options. Either way, this is unlike anything we’ve seen so far from the From team. Take that for what it’s worth. Also, playing solo, is still a work in progress as the announcement for that patch is already out. If you don’t have three friends to play with, you are stuck with randoms. I personally would have loved to see a duos options.
Next, what the game isn’t. It’s not a fully fledged Soulslike adventure like From has released so far. It’s also not meant to be easy to master but it’s oh so rewarding when you do win a full round.
Graphics and Sound
Like most FromSoftware games, the artwork, graphics, and animations range from good to absolutely stunning. There are some amazing moments I’ve witnessed so far on these randomized maps and couldn’t be happier with how the game runs on our PC rig.
Sound is equally is impressive here with the same quality voice acting, rocking sound effects, and soaring musical score. Audiovisually, FromSoft just does it oh so right.
Feedback and Verdict
There are some glaring omissions with the game, especially no crossplay and no voice comms. For a game in 2025, that is almost unbelievable. That being said, I never waited more than than a few moments for matchmaking. Lastly, I found the map to be a bit cluttered and unintuitive but at least visual pointers to lead the group are solid.
Nightreign is a tough game to score. On one hand, it has some rough spots. Yet for me, I’ve had an absolute blast with the matches I’ve played even with people who were totally lost. Also, with the upcoming patches and balances, I believe the game has a very bright future especially if you have friends to play with. Either way, the name of the game is fun and Nightreign delivers that in spades. When it clicks, it clicks oh so right.
