Disney Lorcana Fabled Set Review: Fact or Fable?

Disney Lorcana is coming up fast on its tenth set, and with Fabled, it feels like Ravensburger is ramping up to something truly legendary. But just because the big 1-0 is on the horizon doesn’t mean this ninth set should be overlooked. Fabled might just be one of the most well-rounded and welcoming sets the game has seen so far—especially for players who are just joining the TCG.

What is the Fabled set?

Fabled continues Lorcana’s strong storytelling streak, blending classic Disney favorites with modern fan-favorite moments. What really makes this set shine, though, is its love letter to A Goofy Movie. Seeing Goofy and Powerline front and center is a nostalgic thrill, and the cards themselves beautifully capture that energy—bright, fun, and full of heart. Powerline’s inclusion especially feels like the kind of “fabled” moment fans have been waiting for since the game launched.

Beyond the theme, Fabled also feels like the perfect set to kick off a new arc leading into the next Illumineer’s Quest. There’s a clear sense of renewal here—a fresh start that breathes new life into the game’s story and mechanics. It’s the kind of soft reboot that keeps things exciting without leaving long-time players behind, and it sets a great tone for whatever’s coming next.

What is available?

In addition to the standard booster packs and starter decks, Fabled also includes the Illumineer’s Trove, a premium collector’s box that’s packed with everything a player needs to dive into the set—boosters, lore counters, dividers, and a stunning storage case. For collectors and deck builders alike, it’s the perfect way to celebrate the new chapter of Lorcana.

Ravensburger has also kept up its tradition of offering high-quality accessories such as themed deck boxes, card sleeves, and playmats that match the set’s art direction. The Fabled accessories, especially the Powerline-inspired designs, are eye-catching and well-made—ideal for players who want to show off their favorite movie moments in style.

On top of that, Fabled features a healthy mix of new cards and essential reprints. This is one of the best sets for newcomers to jump into—there’s an impressive number of competitive staples returning here, giving new players the chance to catch up without breaking the bank. Whether you’re starting a fresh deck or tuning up your favorite archetype, Fabled makes it easy to join the action.

Starter Decks

The Fabled starter decks continue the trend of being both thematic and surprisingly playable right out of the box. The standout this time is the Goofy-themed deck, an Emerald/Ruby aggro singer deck that I think plays very well out of the box. But the Amber/Sapphire deck has a lot of great cards for those of you building princess decks.

That said, it’s a little curious that this marks two sets in a row built around singers. While I enjoy the creative flair and musical energy it brings to the game, part of me hopes this isn’t a sign that Lorcana is running short on fresh ideas for starter deck themes. The concept works here because of how iconic Powerline is—but hopefully future sets mix things up a bit more and keep the starters feeling distinct and exciting.

Best Colors

Without a doubt, Amethyst steals the show in Fabled. The color’s flexibility and combo potential make it an easy favorite, with powerful reprints and new support that feel tailor-made for both veterans and newcomers alike.

When it comes to color pairings, Sapphire/Amethyst and Steel/Amethyst stand out as the top choices. Sapphire/Amethyst builds thrive on value and synergy, allowing for smooth setup and consistent plays, while Steel/Amethyst brings a perfect balance of control and aggression, letting you adapt to almost any matchup.

Final Thoughts

Disney Lorcana: Fabled lives up to its name—it’s a set packed with charm, nostalgia, and smart design choices that reward both collectors and competitors. Between the heartfelt A Goofy Movie focus, the abundance of strong reprints, and the standout Amethyst color cards, Fabled hits all the right notes.

It also feels like a fresh restart for Lorcana, setting the stage for what’s shaping up to be an exciting new era. Whether you’re a seasoned player chasing meta decks or a new fan looking for an easy on-ramp, Fabled is one of the most approachable and enjoyable sets yet.
