After surviving the double Nue fight in Onimusha: Way of the Sword, you’ll eventually come face-to-face with Dokyo’s prized fighter: the Greater Nue. This thing is a being of incredible power, and despite looking familiar, it fights almost completely differently from a normal Nue.

Chopping off the Greater Nue’s tail
To prepare for this fight, one thing I recommend upgrading is your Oni Strength. You don’t necessarily “need” it to defeat the Greater Nue, but being able to lift heavier objects will definitely help you throughout the fight.
If you manage to completely deplete the Greater Nue’s stamina, I recommend cutting off its tail. Doing this prevents it from using certain attacks against you for the rest of the fight. Plus, if your Oni Strength is high enough, you’ll be able to pick up the severed tail and throw it back at the Greater Nue, dealing more damage than you would with a normal attack to the head.
Throughout the fight, you’ll see the Greater Nue perform some attacks that are similar to those of a normal Nue. You should treat these attacks the same way and focus on dodging them.
However, once the Greater Nue starts bringing out its new arsenal of attacks, don’t be afraid to parry.
Greater Nue unavoidable attack
The Greater Nue also introduces a new type of attack that you haven’t really had to deal with up until this point: unavoidable attacks. Whenever part of the Greater Nue begins glowing pink while it’s charging an attack, you need to pay close attention because these attacks are devastating.
I know this is basically the opposite of how you approach a normal Nue, but you need to be prepared to parry or, at the very least, defend yourself against these attacks. If one lands cleanly, it can immediately deplete your stamina and take a massive chunk out of your health.
Greater Nue phase 2, lightning charge (after it has already charged)
During the second phase, the Greater Nue adds a lightning charge to its arsenal. This attack can be dodged or deflected, so keep an eye out for the charge-up and react accordingly.
By the time you reach the third phase, everything gets combined. The Greater Nue becomes incredibly aggressive, mixing its original Nue attacks, new weapon attacks, and lightning abilities together into one serious threat.
At this point, the biggest thing you can do is stay calm and remember what each attack requires. Dodge the familiar Nue attacks, be ready to parry its more aggressive strikes, and take advantage of every opportunity you get to damage its stamina.
After fighting the Greater Nue, you’ll find your way out of the compound and get back to closing Rifts, where you’ll fight Dohatsu-ten for the first time. Like the Byakue, Dohatsu-ten is an enemy you’ll fight multiple times, albeit not as many as the Byakue.
