Dynasty Warriors 3 is back, but with a new wrinkle in regard to weapons. The weapon fusion system from previous games has been added, which markedly changes up looting. Don’t worry, though, because we’re here to break down everything you need to know about obtaining weapons, how their slots work, and how to fuse them. You’ll be a true warrior of the Three Kingdoms in no time!
How the weapons and fusion systems work in Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered Complete
When you start playing as a new character, they’ll only have a level 1 weapon. This is obviously the weakest of the weak, as it has the smallest added damage and typically won’t have any traits in slots. You’re going to want more weapons, sure, but getting them will require a bit of patience on your part. By the end of each character’s Musou Mode, you should at least have found a level 3 weapon or two.
The way it works is that enemy officers have a chance to drop a weapon upon defeat. If you want to farm them, you can just jump into free mode with your chosen character and kill officers over and over until you get one. The level of each weapon depends on the difficulty associated with each level, so you can lower the difficulty to easy and jump into a harder level to try and get a level 3 weapon if you want to get one faster.
Level 1 weapons only let you use four hits, level 2 gets you five, and level 3 finally lets you use all of a character’s attacks. Weapons have slots to fit traits in and you’ll find ones with random traits, but getting traits you want is purely the luck of the draw, so you’ll have to get farming to put your perfect weapon together. Level 4 and 5 weapons exist too, but they can only be found by fulfilling criteria in a specific stage. In free mode, simply select a level and look for the character portraits and weapon numbers.
Weapon traits come in a variety of forms and can include extra attack, defense, more health gained from eating dumplings, and more. The amount of benefit these grant also increases when dropped in later-game levels. There are also special weapon traits, which are red and can only be set in stronger weapons, plus weapons can have some different elements.
Unique level 4 and 5 weapons tend to come with their own elements, but these can also occasionally drop from enemies. Elements add elemental damage to a character’s final charge attack and grants a bit of extra oomph, such as triggering an electric discharge upon the hit landing. They don’t make a massive difference all of the time, but the effect can pile on some extra damage.
All of the above is up to you thanks to the new fusion system. The way it works is simple; you pick the weapon you want the traits or element fused onto and then select the weapon to fuse it with. The weapon you select will be destroyed, though, so you’ll need to choose carefully. You can add as many elements onto a weapon as you want provided it has the slots, plus a single element.
This means that you can fuse a bunch of weapons onto the one you prefer to use to make it more powerful. There are limits, however. If you attempt to add an element from one weapon that the other weapon already has, you can’t combine their numbers. Instead, the one you try to fuse will completely replace the other one. For instance, if you try to add a +10 attack trait but already have a +20 one, the +10 will completely replace the +20.
Sadly, this stops you from being able to make completely broken weapons, but it does keep things more balanced. Similarly, a weapon can only have a single element or red trait (if it has a red slot). Red traits are more powerful and much more uncommon and can do things such as allowing you to use your True Musou each time you activate your special. So if you want to swap between weapons of different elements or red traits, you’ll need to keep them on hand and not fuse them.
That’s really all there is to the weapons and fusion system in Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered Complete. Just keep farming tougher levels and you’ll eventually have all the traits you could want to really push your character’s stats through the roof. Just try and only build a level 5 weapon. There’s not much point wasting the effort on anything else.
