It’s almost time to “move our butts,” as Crazy Taxi: World Tour was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday. It looks poised to provide us with the classic arcade-style gameplay we’d expect from the series, with a few interesting alterations to the formula that should help make the game feel modern in today’s landscape.
When is Crazy Taxi: World Tour release date?
Crazy Taxi: World Tour is scheduled to launch sometime in 2027. Unfortunately, no specific release date or even a release window was given. It seems like the publisher Sega has a busy year with releases like Alien Isolation 2, Persona 4 Revival, and Virtua Fighter: Crossroads also launching in that period.
Which systems will Crazy Taxi: World Tour release on?
Crazy Taxi: World Tour, despite debuting on the Xbox Showcase, will be drifting towards the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC alongside the Xbox Series X|S.
Is Crazy Taxi: World Tour on Xbox Game Pass?
Currently, we do not know if Crazy Taxi: World Tour will be on Xbox Game Pass from day one. However, it is a part of Xbox Play Anywhere, which lets you play on both Xbox consoles and PC.
What modes are included in Crazy Taxi: World Tour?
Crazy Taxi: World Tour will have an arcade mode at your disposal, giving you a time limit like the classic titles. However, there will also be a World Tour mode with a “story-driven campaign,” according to the Steam page, wherein we’ll be going all around the world to get Axel’s stolen car back from a group of mysterious thieves.
As you’d expect from a wild franchise like Crazy Taxi, we’ll meet “quirky characters” and take on missions throughout the campaign in five different cities around the world. The only city we know so far, though, is San Francisco.
Will Crazy Taxi: World Tour have multiplayer?
Sega will offer multiple multiplayer modes that have you racing against both your pals and online competitors.
Is Crazy Taxi: World Tour made with generative AI?
On the bottom of the Steam page, Sega confirms that the developer used generative AI support tools during the development of Crazy Taxi: World Tour. According to the developer, “No AI was used in reference to the performers in the game.”
Sega also said that the developer uses “generative AI as a support tool for developers, aiming to provide better content to our users and enable developers to focus more on creative tasks.”
During a presentation at Summer Game Fest, series creator Kenji Kanno elaborated further. According to Kotaku (via a translator), he said that “Everything from programming to assets, everything is made by an actual human.” He also said that generative AI is “only used as a reference for them to look at, and then they would actually create the actual thing that would go into the game.”
Hopefully, Crazy Taxi: World Tour makes us say, “Whoa! Unbelievable!” when it comes out in 2027. While you wait, check out our review of another fast-paced driving game, Hot Wheels Unleashed.
