More than 16 years after the last main entry in the franchise, Playground Games will bring fans of the fairy tale world of Fable a much-anticipated reboot.

What is the release date for Fable?
Fable will release in Fall 2026 after it was delayed in early 2025. No exact date has been revealed by Playground Games or Microsoft.

What price is Fable launching at?
While there has been no official confirmation regarding Fable’s pricing, the game is expected to be sold at $69.99, today’s standard.
How does Fable’s gameplay work?
Fable is a fully-explorable third-person open-world action RPG. The game’s protagonist will make use of magic, weapons, and sheer strength to battle every foe in the nation of Albion.
During your adventure, each of your decisions will significantly impact how the world views you, with a returning morality system. A classic mechanic from past Fable games, it has now been fine-tuned, allowing each NPC to react to your actions based on their own morality.
Additional features include a full character creator, romance, house building, and 1,000 unique NPCs.
What is the plot and setting of Fable?
Fable has you play as a child in Briar Hill, a village in Albion. At one point, your character will discover he possesses heroic powers. After a time jump, the protagonist, now an adult, witnesses how a stranger turns their grandmother and the rest of Briar Hill into stone.
It will be the hero’s mission to bring your fellow village folk back into normalcy. To do so, you will have to find this strange figure in the nation of Albion, the setting for the previous Fable games. As said above, it will be fully explorable from the get-go.
Is Fable a reboot or a sequel?
Fable’s Game Director, Ralph Fulton, revealed in a Developer_Direct interview with Xbox Wire that the game is mainly considered a reboot. However, the story will deviate from the original trilogy, as this “new beginning” will take inspiration from it but not necessarily retell it entirely.
Will Fable be delayed?
Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb claimed earlier in April 2026 that Fable had been “pushed internally,” given Grand Theft Auto VI’s release date being too close to Fable’s. However, while interacting with fans, the official Fable X account confirmed that the game is still scheduled to be released in Fall 2026.
