Quick Review: Lou's Lagoon

I was intrigued upon initially learning of Lou’s Lagoon. An open-world crafting game centered on flying a plane around chains of islands is a promising idea, so I was happy to jump in. However, the actual game is very different and doesn’t at all deliver on this. It’s an alright crafting game, but it can be incredibly tedious and the plane content is sadly very lacking to the point that it may as well not even exist at all.

Quick Review: Fatal Claw

It seems that every other Metroidvania that comes out takes a large amount of inspiration from Hollow Knight. Fatal Claw clearly follows suit, down to the art style, aspects of its exploration, and the way its health and healing systems work. Once you get past that, though, you’ll find a highly engaging game with a lot of its own identity and surprisingly tight design and storytelling.

Quick Review: Aggelos 2

I do so love a good pixel art Metroidvania. I was very fond of the first Aggelos (which was sort of an amalgam between Ys and Wonder Boy), so its sequel easily floated to the top of my list once announced. It’s a very different game than its predecessor, as it’s better in some ways, albeit worse in others. I did very much enjoy it overall, but some bizarre design missteps do get in the way.
