How does Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls’ gameplay work?
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a 2.5D tag team fighting game featuring a 4v4 system, with all your characters sharing a single health bar (Vital Gauge). Fighters have the following attack options at their disposal:
Normal Attacks
Light Attack
Medium Attack
Heavy Attack
Special Attacks
Unique Attack (character mechanic)
Assemble (assist)
Quick Moves
Quick Skill
Quick Assemble
Quick Dash
Movement
Jump
Block
Crouch
Walk
During fights, you control your team via a lead character and three assist fighters. If you choose to do so, you can also approach fighting by playing Tōkon as a traditional tag team fighting game. This is done by calling in an assist, which opens up a window for a party swap. However, the game is designed to only require players to master a single character rather than being knowledgeable about the entire roster.
At the beginning of each match, however, players will only be limited to one main character and one assist. As the fight progresses, and you meet certain conditions, the remaining two characters will unlock, opening up more assist options (which spend Assembly Gauge bars) and extending the Vital Gauge.
This will also extend your Skill Gauge, enabling you to perform EX attacks, supers, and Ultimate Skills. These last ones, of course, trigger a cinematic, and, combined with the Assembly Gauge, can lead to chained Ultimate Skills.
Finally, the game features Episode Mode, which is a single-player campaign mode that features a blend of manga and comics, as well as a traditional Arcade Mode, 2-Player Local VS. Mode, Training Mode, and Online Multiplayer, which supports cross-play.
What is the plot and setting of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls?
The Champion, one of the Elders of the Universe, is a cosmic conqueror who has destroyed worlds in search of a worthy opponent. Accompanied by the Promoter, he has now set his sights on Earth, announcing the “Challenge of the Champion” tournament. Winners will get the chance to face the Champion himself, hopefully saving the planet while they’re at it.
