Fallout Season 2: Ending, Explained

With the final episode of Fallout season two now out, many of the series’ questions have been answered. Still, it’s many closing scenes indicate that things are far from over. So, what exactly happened in the ending and what does it entail for season 3? We have the answers to those questions and more here in this article.

What happens at the end of Fallout season two?

At the end of season 2 of Fallout, we see the trio of Lucy, The Ghoul, and Maximus semi-reunited. After seeing her own father, Hank, reset his mind and forget everything, Maximus arrives after being saved by the New California Republic from multiple Deathclaws. The two watch the sunset as Caesar’s Legion makes its way to New Vegas. Mr. House can be seen glitching on the TV screen, hinting that he may play a part in both Lucy and Maximus’ future.

At the same time, The Ghoul almost reunites with his wife and daughter. Unfortunately, after finally finding the cryo-chamber for both of them, it’s revealed that they are empty, with only a postcard left on Barb’s seat. The postcard shows off Colorado and indicates that both she and his daughter are there, waiting for him.

Meanwhile, Norm survives the radroach attack accidentally spurred. Every one of the former Vault-Tec employees died except for Claudia, who was carried out to safety. At Vault 32, Steph is pinned down in her office by the occupants, knowing of her upbringing as both a Canadian and being from before the apocalypse. She then calls a mysterious number to initiate ‘Phase Two’. The call, alongside others, is intercepted by a factory reminiscent of the one Dr. Wilzig from the Enclave was at, meaning an even bigger force is at play.

Speaking of big forces, it’s revealed that Elder Cleric Quintus survived the attack on the Brotherhood of Steel base. Dane hands over a blueprint of sorts to him, and it’s revealed that they plan to create a war-mongering robot. The robot, Liberty Prime, should ring a bell for Fallout fans, as the hulking android has been a staple since Fallout 3.

What’s next for Fallout season three?

If guesses had to be made, the trio will once again split off. However, this time, The Ghoul will likely go out on his own to Colorado while Lucy and Maximus team up in New Vegas. With the threat of Caesar’s Legion, the two will probably have to get their hands dirty. Even more so, the ‘invisible’ brainwashing machines Hank mentioned before ‘killing’ himself could play a role.

Meanwhile, the big bad of season 3 is looking to be the Enclave, first teased in season 1 with Dr. Wilzig. The shadowy organization seems to have a hand in many things, like Vault 32, so their presence will be known more then. Still, Mr. House remains and has his sights on Lucy and Maximus, both feeling guilt-ridden and without guidance — something House can exploit.

Either way, the world of Fallout will continue to grow, and it’ll be exciting to see where it all goes. As of now, no release date has been announced for the third season, but filming is expected to happen this year.

All episodes of Fallout are available to stream on Prime Video.
