Do you remember that fun game where you could control gigantic monsters whose sole objective is to decimate a city into rubble to advance to the next level? Gamers way back the late 80s and early 90s will surely remember Rampage, a fun classic arcade game developed by Bally Midway.
In case you haven’t heard, the game is getting a film adaptation by Warner Bros. starring Dwayne Johnson and a trailer for the upcoming 2018 film was recently posted and shared all over the Internet. The film will also star Jeffrey Dean Morgan who is popularly known for playing Negan in The Walking Dead series by AMC.
The original 1986 video game gave players the control of three gigantic monsters: a gorilla named George, a werewolf named Ralph, and a massive lizard named Lizzie. The objective of the game is to wreak havoc in cities while surviving attacks from civilians, police, and the military.
The filmmakers already made it clear that the film will only be loosely based on the popular arcade game. This is understandable because although the game has some story, there is not much to work with to make a full length film. Don’t worry though, all your favorite monsters from the game will be present in the movie.
The film will also center around the friendship of Johnson’s character and George the gorilla. In May, Johnson posted his own version of the synopsis of the movie, which shed light on the relationship of his character and the gorilla:
“I head up an anti-poaching unit out of Rwanda,” Johnson wrote. “My best friend is a rare albino gorilla named George. Very bad people infect George, an alligator and a wolf with a serum. All three animals grow at an unprecedented rate. Their size, speed, agility and violent aggression is off the charts. They go on a deadly rampage and want to destroy the world.”
The last time Rampage was even talked about in the gaming community was when Lego added Rampage along with 20 other classic arcade games as an add-on level pack in their game Lego Dimensions last 2016, check out the trailer here. Rampage the movie was first announced in June 2015 and will be released in theaters on April 20, 2018.
