Most, if not, all gamers that grew up on the older generations of games will always have some sort of nostalgia for those older games. That being said, while the gameplay might still be awesome, going back is almost always never what it seems. The games a lot of the time don’t hold up especially because of where the graphics are at now. These are just some of the games that I would love to see remastered or remade, rather than some of the garbage that gets put out now. cough Gollum cough
The Godfather 1 & 2
The Godfather holds the top spot as my all-time favorite movie, so you can imagine my excitement as a youngster when I discovered there were not just one, but two video games based on it! While I enjoyed The Godfather video game, it was The Godfather 2 that really captured my attention. The family tree mechanic, where you had to eliminate soldiers to uncover clues and climb your way to the top, was a standout feature for me. It was a gaming experience I hadn't encountered before, and the only other game that impressed me with the same mechanic was Shadow of War.
Even now, I've rarely seen such a mechanic executed as well as in those two games. Dreaming big, I'd love to see remakes of The Godfather and The Godfather 2 on Unreal Engine 5. If I had to choose, The Godfather 2 would be my pick because of the intriguing family tree aspect. Admittedly, I realize the name "The Godfather" might not carry the same weight as it used to, but personally, it's something I would absolutely love to witness.
Ratchet: Deadlocked
Not too long ago, a new Ratchet & Clank game hit the scene, keeping the franchise fresh in people's minds. Despite its popularity, it surprisingly didn't quite satisfy my craving for the series. Instead, it fueled my desire for a revisit to Ratchet: Deadlocked, my personal favorite in the franchise. This preference stems from it being my initial experience with the series and its distinct, mature theme that sets it apart.
Considering these factors, I believe a remaster of Deadlocked has the best shot at success. Don't get me wrong—I'd be thrilled with a remaster of the entire franchise. It's just that I suspect the other games might not resonate as strongly with today's gamers.
Silent Hill
Silent Hill 2 is already in line for a remake, and you, like many others, might be wondering when the heck we'll get a remaster for the first game. Silent Hill 2 tends to be more popular than its predecessor, Silent Hill, so it's understandable they'd choose the sequel as a safer bet for making money. Plus, there's Silent Hill 4K, although it's not exactly next-gen, it technically qualifies as a remaster. However, that's not exactly what I'm hoping for. I'm looking for the same kind of transformation that Resident Evil 4 received.
If the Silent Hill 2 remake proves to be a success, I believe it's just a matter of time before we see a remaster for the original Silent Hill. So, fingers crossed for that glow-up!
Sly Cooper Franchise
They absolutely need to remaster the WHOLE Sly Cooper Franchise and bring it to the Nintendo Switch! I mean, if they could pull it off with Spyro and bundle it into one awesome game, there's no reason they can't do the same for Sly Cooper. When I first dove into these games, I was completely hooked on the story, and even considering how old the game is, the voice acting was just top-notch! I'd snatch up a remaster for the Switch in a heartbeat—no kidding!
The Simpsons Game
The Simpsons Game seems to have slipped under the radar for many, but let me tell you, it's got this fantastic original story and gameplay that gives off serious GTA vibes. Picture this: The Simpsons meets GTAV, and I'm practically drooling at the thought. Just imagine a decade-long game with The Simpsons in the style of GTAV – we'd only need that one game. They could keep things fresh with DLC from all the iconic places The Simpsons have explored in the show. I'm convinced it would be an incredible, long-lasting gaming experience!
What do you think, should these games be remastered? What games did I miss?
