Luminous Productions announced today that their upcoming, action title, Forspoken, has been delayed from its initial release date of May 24th, 2022. The game will now come out on October 11th, 2022, making this a delay of just under five months. Per the studio’s post on Twitter, the reason for this delay is simply to give them more time to polish the game and deliver on their vision for “this exciting new IP.”
Forspoken is an open-world adventure game that puts players in the shoes of a young woman named Frey who finds herself suddenly transported into the strange world of Athia. Athia is a magical land ruled by powerful matriarchs known as Tantas, and Frey might just be the only person capable of taking down these villains and saving the world from a devastating curse.
Players will use powerful spells to take on enemies, and the game will have a heavy focus on mobility and maneuverability. Frey will be able to glide through the air, leap incredible distances, and even create an ice board she can use to travel quickly while on the ground.
Luminous Productions is a subsidiary of Square Enix and is most known for its work on Final Fantasy XV, the last, mainline entry in Square’s long-running, JRPG series. Forspoken will be their first, wholly original title since their formation in 2018.
Forspoken will now launch on October 11th, 2022 for the PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Digital preorders come with special, in-game rewards, while physical preorders from Best Buy or GameStop come with a steelbook case or character cards, respectively. The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with a digital artbook, soundtrack, and early access to a prequel DLC story expansion.
