Halloween Gameplay Revealed At State Of Play!

When IllFonic and Gun Interactive first announced their upcoming Halloween game, the reveal was met with a wave of skepticism. Given the mixed track record of their past projects, it was understandable—but also a little unfair to write it off too early. After all, there are plenty of reasons their earlier games fizzled out that don’t necessarily reflect on their talent as developers.

One common misstep in the asymmetrical horror genre has been the push for multiple killers. While it sounds exciting on paper, the gimmick often ends up disrupting the pacing and tension that make the genre thrive. In fact, the best example of how to do it right was Friday the 13th: The Game—which, not coincidentally, was the last time IllFonic and Gun joined forces.

Now, with gameplay finally revealed, it’s clear that the studios understand what players have been missing. The Halloween game leans heavily into that Friday the 13th style of horror, and it makes perfect sense. Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees share a similar presence: slow, methodical, and terrifyingly unstoppable. The footage suggests that this spiritual successor could bring back that same tense cat-and-mouse energy fans have been craving.

Even better, we finally have a release date. Halloween launches September 8, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Yes, it’s a bit of a wait—but if the extra time ensures a polished, fully realized game, it’ll be worth it.

Personally, I’m excited. This could be the game to finally fill the Friday the 13th-shaped hole in the horror multiplayer space. And if the gameplay reveal is anything to go by, horror fans everywhere should be watching closely.
