With Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2’s recent re-release, there’s never been a better time to catch up on this creative platforming duo. However, before you dive into the remastered versions of the games, you may be curious how long it’ll take you to see what they have to offer. Here’s what you need to know.
How long is Super Mario Galaxy?
Super Mario Galaxy should take the average player around 13-15 hours to complete. There are plenty of different galaxies to explore with unique (and occasionally quite difficult) platforming levels that may keep some less experienced folks busier even longer. You’ll need 60 Power Stars to reach the main ending of the game — but there’s a lot more to see afterward.
Once you’ve beaten Super Mario Galaxy, you can attempt to finish collecting all 120 Power Stars, which should prove plenty challenging for all but the most seasoned veterans of the franchise. And once you do so, you’ll find there’s an incentive to do it all over again for a true final ending. With this in mind, you can spend upwards of 30-40 hours seeing the game through to 100% completion.
How long is Super Mario Galaxy 2?
Super Mario Galaxy 2 should take most players around 15-20 hours to complete. This sequel is considered by many to be a tighter, more focused experience thanks to its traditional world map structure and more linear level design, but it still provides plenty of challenging platforming fun. You’ll need 70 Power Stars to reach its ending.
As with its predecessor, you can seek out all of the Power Moons in Super Mario Galaxy 2 to reach full completion. In this case, there are a total of 242, making the path to 100% an enjoyable adventure that once again should take around 35-40 hours.
