So, last I checked, Jump Force was going to be a fighting game featuring various characters from Shonen Jump manga. Why the heck is Yugi Muto joining the fight? I know he’s a big Shonen character, but what’s he going to do? Seto Kaiba at least would be able to throw cards at people to damage them as seen in the anime. Also, all the pictures seem to indicate that it will actually be Yami Yugi, Atem, or the Pharoah (depending on which name you prefer) and not technically Yugi. This does actually open up things if they decide to use season 0 material as a source and not Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters.
In season 0, Yami Yugi is more cutthroat and plays deadly games that don’t involve children’s playing cards. That character could potentially challenge opponents to games, but the key is that he has to win the game in order for his opponent to perform the deadly punishment. I don’t think that will work well in a game like Jump Force. Also, the Duel Monsters version is a lot more recognizable and therefore the more likely option.
Some are even speculating that he will play similar to Pokemon Trainer in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Instead of switching Pokemon, he’d instead switch which monster is fighting and starts a whole new debate of which cards he should use. My top 5 picks for this would be Dark Magician, Dark Magician Girl, Celtic Guardian, Kuriboh, and if they have ultimate moves Exodia would be perfect for that. Jump Force will be available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2019.
