Last night, J.Storm won the sixth edition of the World Showdown of Esports, scoring a marathon victory over defending champions Team Serenity in the final. To make it to the final of the tournament—which was aptly dubbed “Serenity’s Destiny”—J. Storm had to fight their way through a Challenger Bracket, defeating Team Juniper, GGNGG, and Infamous on their path to Serenity. J.Storm’s win in the final allowed the team to avenge their loss at Serenity’s hands at the last Dota 2 WSOE event in October.
The final began with a loss for J.Storm, with Serenity cores Zhang “Zyd” Daquan and Chu “shadow” Zeyu taking decisive control in the mid-game phase. Despite a near-comeback by Serenity in game two, J.Storm managed to even the score, and the teams traded wins once again in the third and fourth games of the series.
The deciding match of the series was a 72-minute slog, with J.Storm coming back for the win after facing a 26,000-gold deficit at one point in the match. “Won my first tournament,” tweeted J.Storm carry David “Moo” Hull.
Since J.Storm’s formation last September, they have posted inconsistent results, failing to qualify for the MDL Disneyland Paris Major and withdrawing from ESL One Mumbai. Though they were the favorites to win last night’s event, J.Storm’s victory at WSOE 6 may herald an uptick in performance for the North American team.
