During the Disney D23 Expo that took place in Tokyo yesterday, Kingdom Hearts III, Square Enix’s upcoming title to the popular Disney meets Final Fantasy inspired franchise, just got a new trailer. As seen in the trailer posted above, it has been revealed that a new Monsters Inc world will be present in the game.
Together with the trailer, Disney announced new details on the game that features a world where Sora, Goofy, and Donald, transformed into monsters and bumped into Sulley, Mike, and Boo. The trailer also showed Sora and company meeting Marluxia, a member of New Organization XIII. The first time Marluxia was introduced was back in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, which makes his appearance in Kingdom Hearts III his debut in a main game.
The trailer then transitions into cuts between different sections of the game, and gives us a glimpse of the worlds of Tangled, and The Litlle Mermaid, and it also showed the Keyblade wielder Vanitas, who made his debut in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. Furthermore, Square Enix revealed further details of the game, including the return of the Gummi Ship segments. However, for Kingdom Hearts III, it has been split into two phases, first an exploration phase, and a combat phase.
Square Enix also revealed that the entire Osaka Studio, is working on Kingdom Hearts III, and that development is split into three sections: early, middle, and late. As of now, the worlds in the early section are already 90 percent complete, while worlds in the middle section are at around 60 percent, and no word is out yet regarding the progress of the end section. Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the Kingdom Hearts franchise said that he will be adding in the end sction “something he’s always wanted to put into Kingdom Hearts, ever since the days of working on Final Fantasy.” He also noted that, “It is bound to surprise everyone.”
Lastly, the developer confirmed that Utada Hikaru, will be making a comeback for the latest game’s soundtrack. The song can be heard in the trailer, as Rikku is seen leaving his Keyblade behind. The last time the Kingdom Hearts franchise got a main entry in the series was back in 2005, so this third installment, which will serve as the final game in the trilogy, was a long wait for fans of the game. Kingdom Hearts III is coming to the Xbox One and the PS4. Square Enix is still yet to give a specific release date but as for now, it is slated for a release sometime in 2018.
