To say KPop Demon Hunters has exploded onto the scene would be a gross understatement. Not only has it already reached over 210 million streaming views online, it’s also features Billboard smashing tunes and to celebrate, there is a sing-along event August 23 and 24 in theatres everywhere. We happened to catch one of these showing and even with a theatre almost full of moms, dads, and most teenage daughters, the event was surprisingly quiet.
One of the very few moments I saw any movement from the crowd at all.
While I wasn’t expecting a full on dance party, I was surprised at how quiet, subdued, and just plain shy most of the crowd was during our showing. Sing alongs are supposed to a fun, let-your-hair-down type of social event and while the theatre grounds and snack stands were packed, this might has well been a sing along for Schindler’s List.
At least outside the theatre they had some fun shiny mics and a photo op area.
Maybe it was just our bad luck and maybe other theatres were packed with screaming and shouting fans but while the movie is still a gem, the experience was a bit of a letdown. I don’t know what sing along I would ever go to again but we need more excitement and joy in general in the world today and this would have been the perfect op. Maybe next time there is a breakout, smash streaming hit, right?
