The Nintendo Switch is about to get a lot sportier this summer, as the Mario Strikers series is back with Mario Strikers: Battle League. Battle League will mark the first entry in the Mario Strikers franchise in 15 years, with the last title being 2007’s Mario Strikers Charged for the Nintendo Wii.
Mario Striker: Battle League is a soccer-like sports game featuring characters from across the Mario universe, including Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, and Mario himself. While the game has the same basic rules as soccer, Battle League also features aggressive tackles, a variety of usable items, and super abilities known as Hyper Strikes that can score two points with a single goal.
Players will be able to customize their characters, equipping different armor to modify each character’s stats. Certain gear pieces might boost a character’s shooting strength, while others will make them more accurate at passing or faster when chasing after the ball.
Standard matches are 5-on-5 games and shift player control to whichever character is currently holding the ball. The game will support both local and online multiplayer matches, and it will have an integrated club system for online play where players can compete with both their club members and other clubs.
Mario Strikers: Battle League will hit Nintendo Switch on June 10th, 2022, and is available now for pre-order.
