There is no doubt that Pokémon has always stuck to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" strategy of game development. However, sometimes the main series strays into some very odd directions. (Hello, Pikachu! certainly comes to mind.) Well, on February 3rd Nintendo is releasing Great Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Duo on the Japanese eStore. There still isn't really a lot known about the gameplay, but we know that the main character will be a super-sleuth Pikachu with his human side-kick. The Pikachu detective will have the ability to speak, much like Meowth from the animated series, and together they will solve crimes ala Sherlock and Watson.
The launch trailer is very clearly inspired by BBC's Sherlock as it shows abstract, close up cuts of crime scenes in a very London inspired town. Give the trailer a watch below and see what you think. There is still no word if this game will see the outside of Japan, but with the big 20th anniversary that is happening this year there is a good chance it will.
