A new trailer has dropped during the Golden Joystick Awards for Bandai Namco Entertainment’s newest game, Code Vein. The Action RPG that was announced last April, sets itself in a post-apocalyptic dystopia, with vampiric themes.
The game is about a hidden society called “the vein”, who are people that have been given abilities in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. The thirst, that if driven to far, makes the user a lost fiendish ghoul devoid of humanity.
The trailer itself shows off beautiful anime inspired visuals including destroyed cities, frozen wastelands, and dark caverns. While there is little to no official gameplay in the trailer, it still shows just enough to entice those who are interested in creating an anime vampiric persona and slaying even the most threatening of enemies. The original trailer announced at the last E3 gave us a little more information about the game than this one did, however it made the game seem ever more amazing.
Anyone wishing to know what the gameplay actually looks like in this game fret not, this 10 minute video from IGN shows off the combat and HUD style of the game in development, at least during a boss fight. The combat seems to take inspiration from games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne where players have to skillfully avoid attacks or risk taking large amounts of damage.
What are your thoughts on the anime art style mixed with Dark Souls-esque gameplay? Is it your cup of tea?
Code Vein is slated to release on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC sometime in 2018.
