Nintendo has doubled their production of the Nintendo Switch to an unprecedented number in an effort to meet demand for the console. Initially, the company stated they would be producing 8 million units beginning in April to roll out to retailers. Nintendo has now upped that number to 16 million, which, if all sell would put the console well above the analyst predictions of the console success.
Right now the magic number for the Nintendo Switch is 10 million consoles. It'll take about 10 million first year sales to really start pulling in third party support and get developers who have praised to console to actually begin supporting it. With 2.5 million official sales in the first month, the console is certainly off to a good start. The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild has proven to be a system seller as well, with over 80% of those purchasing a Switch purchasing the game as well. With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey coming later in the year, Nintendo's first class first party lineup will be moving along full steam by the time a majority are able to get their hands on the system.
Good news if you own a Nintendo Switch obviously, now if we could just get that virtual console up and going...
