Expansive Worlds - the makers of theHunter: Call of the Wild - have swapped the rifle for the rod with their new game, Call of the Wild: The Angler. Billed as a sandbox fishing experience, the game allows you to enjoy the contemplative pastime alone or with friends in 12-player online co-op.
You begin in the Golden Ridge Reserve, a location inspired by the wilds of Wyoming, which you can explore on foot, in an off-road vehicle, and - of course - by boat. Expansive Worlds is promising to roll out additional content in the future, which will likely include new maps, a la their previous game.
They also claim that the fishing gameplay will be accessible for everyone, yet involved at the same time. Each species will have its own unique behaviors, and there will be advanced techniques and strategies to learn as you progress. You will also be able to upgrade and customize your gear, including your reels, hooks, baits, etc.
Coming to PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on August 31st, Call of the Wild: The Angler is also set for console release, although there is no date confirmed for this yet. It is self-published by Expansive Worlds, a division of Avalanche Studios Group.
